Maybe you should make the head a bit mot pointed, make it more worm-y.
Also worms have this ring, or band pattern on their skin, which allows them to stretch and contract. You could have a bumpmap which hints that pattern.
With these changes no-one could accuse your worm of looking like something else. :^)
Other than that, I like it.
I like the way it is stylized, very nice. Good luck in the competition.
