TheCubeTeam: Project DesertSand Announcement

Ladies and gentlemen, let me proudly present to you; project DesertSand (code name). The game project DesertSand started at the beginning of the summer 2010 as a school project of 4 students in two Swedish gymnasium schools (its equal the oldest grade in an American high school).

Now, project DesertSand has evolved to a status of progress at 40%. And we feel that it’s time to reveal the project for critics. Let me present the concept;

Project DesertSand is a game project of FPS-type and takes the player on journey along with Swedish elite soldiers and their tasks in middle-east.

“Its presidential election and the time have come for voting. Military intelligence gets notified that voting stations in the city are under attack by ultranationalists and have killed numerous of civilians. Swedish special forces are put into action…”

The game project is thought to be commercial if we think the quality of the game is good enough. If so, the game will be sold at a very low cost.

Right now we are sitting on a very good template for the player and all interactions. We have designed an AI system that we think is good and we are right know finishing making all the levels and the music album for the game.

This project was planned to be beta ready at New Years Eve but due to delays we will need to push the demo day. The game is planned to be released the 21 February 2011 if no deadlines are broken.

The pictures below are at alpha-status and are not yet playable. In January/February 2011 we are planning to release an exclusive demo at this forum. People who register on our website (which we will announce later) will be part in election of beta-testers.

For you guys who wonder about performance; the game runs very good and of course at 60 FPS. The system we use for optimization tests has the following specs:
Intel Pentium D 2,8 GHz
Corsair 4GB 800Mhz
Nvidia Geforce 250 GTS (which is the same as the 9800 GTX)

Last and not least, you guys are all artist with good imagination. We are always looking for Easter egg ideas. If you got a little idea or a model that you think would fit into this project as an Easter egg and you are willing to give it away freely, please post the model or idea. It would be fun to have you guys being able to affect the outcome of the game.

If you want to participate in this project, feel free to email us at [email protected]. We are always looking for help that can contribute to a better game and happy players. We can only offer you a free example of the game as compensation.

This post will be updated weekly with more news.

Happy Blending!

Looks professional - perhaps this, too, will be another commercial BGE game. If so, great.

awesome =)

Hi guys!
I have a question for you. What would you like to see in an FPS game, something that you always wanted to have that would make a game experience feel new and fun? If you guys have any ideas or thoughts I would absolutely like to hear them.

Other games solve this in diffrent kind of ways. Like in Call of Duty you got killstreaks, in Fallout you got inventory and in game like splintercell conviction you got some awesome “slowmotion multi killl ability”. If you got any ideas that you would like to see, please post them.

And here’s some more eyecandy for you guys.

Have a good one!

It’s looking very promising. Nice charactor design.

Maybe best to think about your story and what game machanics it sugests…
Where are poles counted in Sweden? Are they counted all night? If so are the counters hostages? I take it you have to get the ballot box somewhere safe.

Why is it called Desert Sand if it’s set in Sweden?

Thank you for your input yogyog. I think you misunderstood the concept or maybe I was’nt clear enough. Either way the game doesn’t take place in sweden, it takes place in the middle-east. That might explain a thing or two. :slight_smile:

The reason it’s called DesertSand is because the game takes place in the middle-east:eek:. Note its only a codename for the project and I was’nt clear about sequences of the story. You were right, it’s about rescuing the counters, not the voters themself during daytime.

Here’s some more screenshots. The level development is continuing in a rapid speed…

Note: All images are at alpha-status.
