Thickness of the wall of an object

Hi,
I wanted to find the thickness of wall of my objects. e.g. I have a model of a flat tray / plate. How can I find the thickness at its center?

There is the n key short cut. If you hit that in edit mode you can select points and find the positions. If you want to find the center of the plate between the top and the bottom. Simply select the top and bottom face and use Shift S to put the cursor to selection. That will place it in he center.
