So, I’m trying to clean up my desk a little bit, and suddenly realized what a mess I truly have. Got me to wondering about other people’s environments, and I wanted a little commiseration.
I have, attached to the main computer that I use in my home, the following:
Monitor
Mouse
Keyboard
Speakers
Photo printer
CD/DVD printer
Printer/Scanner combo
External hard drive
Analog video input device
External sound card
Cable modem
Wireless router
USB travel drive
12 interface cables
14 power cables (some don’t appear to be connected)
4 power strips
3 electrical extension cords
Microphone, headset, wired audio remove control, and hookup for a digital video camera. That’s not counting the other two computers in the house. Plus, I’ve been thinking about getting yet another external hard drive, 'cause I seem to be a data pack rat.
Anybody else got a mess like this? I can’t even see the carpet underneath the nest of wires and power strips on the floor.
EEEeeeeeeeeeerrrrrr… ooooookaaaaay…
I got a mouse and that’s it. Scanner, printer etc. are connected only when I need 'em.
Maybe you ought to know I got an internal CD/DVD reader and writer.
Sorry, but I need order and simplicity. To a certain extent.
I have, attached to the main computer that I use in my home, the following:

printer- scanner- computer 1- computer 2- kvm swicth to go between them- 2 external hdd (laptop style- digital camera- coca-cola (insomiacs best friend)- mouse- keyboard- 6.1 stereo surround kit- lord only knows how many power connectors and cables- lead acid battery for backup power- hydrogen peroxide (not entirely sure why)- amass of cds/dvds ect
I checked most carefully before I posted, and I did specify things actually connected to the computer.
I may have been interpreting similar threads as being sufficiently different in a manner that was perfunctorily too narrow in definition, but I am a programmer and a geek after all, so that’s kinda my thing, y’know.
Went shopping for a new external hard drive last night, and also gave some consideration to getting an external DVD burner, because the internal one I have doesn’t do double layer. Haven’t picked up either one, but I think it’s only a matter it time before the peripherals grow to the point where I’ll never see the carpet again.
