I’d get Ken Brilliant’s “Building a Digital Human” instead. That book is worth its weight in gold in my opinion. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1584502851/qid=1101060854/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-7396830-1879124?v=glance&s=books
Should be pretty compatible with Blender for modeling, I use silo3d for modeling so I can’t say for sure.

I know there are some good Maya modeling tutorials that are like the ones showed in the books. NO idea where it was.
