Tigerfox — 2D Style Short Animation

Beware when little Tigerfox gets a whiff of his prey! :fox::paw_prints:

To achieve this 2D-stylized look, I used a fun hybrid workflow. The Tigerfox was sculpted and fully painted inside Nomad Sculpt. Once brought into Blender, he was rigged using Rigify and animated. For the environment, the background was hand-painted in Artstudio Pro, imported via “Images as Planes”, and combined with a projection-mapped floor.

To maintain the flat aesthetic, the scene mostly relies on Emission shaders. However, to catch the contact shadow on the floor without breaking the 2D illusion, I built a custom toon-shading setup: a basic Diffuse shader piped through a Shader to RGB node to create a hard shadow mask, which then blends between a base and darkened version of the painted floor texture.

Finally, the cloud animations and sound design were done in Final Cut Pro on the iPad.

Here is the node setup I used to catch the shadow on the floor:

The thumbnail doesn’t do this justice. I wasn’t going to click on it; glad I did. Excellent work.

Thank you for the kind words! I definitely need to work more on my presentation, but I’m really glad you decided to check out the full piece :hand_with_fingers_splayed:

It’s a pity, since more people should see your work. The look, animation and presentation is something I hope for. It’s just the thumbnail, it’s just an empty landscape, gives no Idea of the magic you’ve created. Sorry if I’m being a bit embarrassing, just thought it was impressive.
