Today we needed a tileable chainlink texture for our game. I was able to quickly whip one up by modeling it in Blender:
The above .blend uses a quick model with three array modifiers, subsurf and basic material. The model was made with the array modifiers visible, then modeled by intuition rather than strict measurements. A quick material and a few lights later, the result is that you can hit render and save the image, and there’s your texture.
This could be improved with more variety in the base material. I also think you can probably bake a normal map from this since it has actual shape.
