Timeline sync between scenes

Hi,

I’ve created a “Main” scene only to use its VSE as a global production board, where I want to chain sequences strips (Scene-01, then Scene-02, …).

The timeline of this “Main” scene is going from the frame 1 to the frame 1000.
I added at the frame 50 a strip of the first scene i’m working on, so a “scene-01” strip.

I succeed to configure 2 separate windows :

  • A Video editing window of the “Main”
  • An Animation Window of the “Scene-01”

so I can modify content in scene-01 and see the result of the modifications directly in main.

There’s a timeline for each sequence but they’re unlinked. It contrains me to always make counts to see coresponding frames between the two sequences. I would like if I click on the frame 50 of “Main”, it automaticaly goes at the first frame of “Sequence-01”.

Is there a way by settings ?
If no, it could be useful and perhaps simple to have a little script with event and set_frame() ?

Sorry, you can no longer sync different scenes (you could in the old days B2.49). When scrubbing in the VSE timeline the other scene will update. But if you move to the other scene then you cannot make the VSE update. If you want audio to sync with then I guess you would have to set the audio up first then duplicate that to another scene.

There is no way to append in a VSE strip from another .blend. But you can copy/paste between scenes.

Hmmm I see … Old versions … That’s why I was surprised it didn’t work.

I’ve found a tool that could have been provided to help a little bit ; " Duplicate markers to scene ".

With this I can exchange points of reference between scenes and it prevents a lot of counting in my case.
It’s not automaticaly calculating where the markers have to be placed depending to the strips positions but it keeps intervals !
So I just have to prepare a group of markers, send it to a sub-sequence and move the whole group from as many frames there are between the main sequence first frame and the first frame of the sub-sequence i’m dealing with.

It can be used to send informations to sub-sequences about timings and even audio, allowing in this case to let the main soundtrack only on the main scene … (depending of the degree of Sync complexity)

When scrubbing in the VSE timeline the other scene will update.

You wanted to talk about the other windows of the same scene, isn’t it ? not the other scene ?
Because if you were really talkng about other scene, for now I don’t have any kind of sync between timelines, from VSE to subscene ot from subscene to VSE …
