alright - so i’m doing these tin -foil rolls (like alien antennas on costumes) and i can’t really get it right. Does anyone have a good idea on how to go about creating these tin foil antennas?

To do the tinsel on my Christmas tree, I took a long series of planes, twisted them around a bit, and used light coming from three different directions (and colors) to light them up. The lights and tinsel was on its own layer, to not disturb the lighting in the rest of the scene. This would probably work for your tin-foil antennae as well.

might want to use a colorbanded texture like veroni or crackle to simulate the bizillion creases.
You could also try using the fractal tool.
