Tintin's spacecraft

from the albums “Objectif Lune” and “On a marché sur la Lune”, Tintin’s spacecraft.
I’ve learned a lot about Blender doing this image. Still lot of tweaking and learning to do (ligthing, texture and material). But I consider it not to bad for a newbie.

Not bad. Nice composition.

A couple of things I would do (keep in mind, I’m still pretty new to blender too):

Turn the Specularity of the Planet all the way down. You shouldn’t get any specular reflections from the planet texture. Maybe turn the Emit up a little bit to get the planetary “glow”

Go into each object in Edit mode (tab) select all the vertecies and click “Set Smooth”. That will get rid of the facets on the rocket surfaces and the planet.

Really nicely composited pic there.

As for set smooth, you dont have to go to editmode. Try to discover the possibilities of Auto smooth as well. That button has been my most important discovery up to now.

Hey, that’s great!
Things to do:

  1. Make all objects smooth (under edit buttons) and also swith on the autosmooth option so that… well… try out smooth without autosmooth and you will see some funkyness…
  2. Yup, reduce the specularity… or give it a darker color… so that it barely shines (this looks like some funky disco ball at the moment)
  3. you might also wanna check your lamps (spotlights) because they are creating funky lighting on the left side of the rocket where shadows should be…
  4. Using OSA would also improve the quality of the render…

This makes me remember good old times…
