Technically you aren’t supposed to use modifiers, but I’m a huge fan of rule bending in the pursuit of making art, so you still get a gold star from me!
Also the way you used those boolean cutters was pretty clever and clean, so I can’t complain about that

I didn’t use modifiers, I made an inset on each face and extruded them inwards, then I removed the inner faces and cleaned the mesh dissolving the edges and connecting the vertices to keep the surface with quads.
