Hi, I’d like advice on making the archway look more similar to the reference photo in the project and to the photos within the post. I’d also like to know how to make the edges of the arch look smoother without subdivision ruining the sharpness.
There are several ways from starting with simple geometry:
…and doing this by modeling:
using curves and profile curves:
Using addons (here Archimesh):
Or simply everything found by: “blender arched window” in your favorite search engine or directly by some video platform. For example:
And of course: geometry nodes.
Can you explain the method of the arch using curves and profiles? I’m still new to using curves.
The Screenshot shows almost everything:
- Create a Curve that is formed like the profile of the window frame.
- Create a Curve that is formed like the window.
- Make sure the window curve is selected
- In the Data Tab in the Properties Menu under Shape set 2D instead of 3D (or the result will look deformed) (also set the resolution to your liking)
- In the Data Tab in the Properties Menu under Geometry->Bevel set the object to the curve that defines the profile
Edit: Tip: To make the edges look clean move the profile curve in edit mode and see what works best for you.
Welcome …
…and:
Exactly this
…of course one also could have used:
- arched window
- curves and profiles
( if one does not know yet ) in the awesome forum search function (top right; –icon)… or any other favorite search engine…
I used the method and loved the result, but now I want to know how I can fix the bending in the lower part of the arch to make it even with everything else and to close the back of it properly.
??? You looking at this in perspective and not front ortho… or wha tyou are talking about ??
You can close the profile curve too (cyclic) and set the corner handles to vector (so they are “spicky”).
I looked in both views and there’s this kind of shift that bends the arch a bit or maybe it’s just not there and I’m crazy.
The bevel modifier with custom profile and vertex groups. You’d still have control the bevel and you can use bumpmap for the detail and so on. Mark edges for subdivision (mark edges that you want sharp and shift+e+drag).
