(TNBC) Jack and Zero Diorama (Fanart)

Hello everyone

The Nightmare Before Christmas has always been one of my favorite movies since I was a little girl, and the idea of creating my own diorama goes back to 2021, a few years after I got my first 3D printer, when I decided to try my hand at modeling this scene, but I never finished it because I wasn’t completely satisfied with the result, due to my lack of experience in modeling complex designs and then 3D printing them.

After coming across my old first draft in November 2023, I decided it was time to start all over again, using my newly acquired knowledge thanks to Shane Olson’s 3D Character Workshop.

And so this brand new model was born, and I was finally able to fulfill my dream of having my very own and unique piece of The Nightmare Before Christmas

Made in November 2023

Mostly sculpted and posed in ZBrush, with some modeling in Blender.
Prepped for 3D printing in Blender.
Rendered in Blender using the Cycles Engine.
Render edited in Photoshop.

I have added a turnaround video made with EEVEE, some pictures of the first draft I made back in 2021, and some pictures of the 3D printed version of the diorama on my Artstation if you want to check it out: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/bgBO2r

A couple of Clay Renders:

And a couple of Workbench Renders to show the several pieces for 3D printing:

Your lighting is beautiful. I just read they used a beam splitter for the original Zero. Like a…heads up display. And. A 100 year old camera.

Thank you so much Kenzie, it really means a lot to me :face_holding_back_tears: because I tried to give it (at least minimally) the feel of the film, so I’m so glad you like it!
I know I could have used a different and more appealing background to enhance the whole scene. I may update it in the future, who knows.

Oh really? I didn’t know about those specific details, where did you find that information? I would love to read that article myself

Anyway, thanks again Kenzie :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Even better. I just found test footage of the technique from the film.

This was the original article though.
American Society of Cinematographers “Stop Motion Without Compromise…”

It really looks great what you did. I love American McGee’s “Alice.” There’s the same kind of compromise there if I built any characters now with better 3D.
