To grow a selection in Blender you should use “Alt +/- plus and minus” but for me it zooms in and out? any ideas?

Select More is Ctrl+Numpad + and Select Less is Crtl+Numpad -. I’m not sure where you got the Alt from, it definitely won’t select, it’s the wrong shortcut.
