Toon Shader Outlines

I’m playing around with the toon shaders for the first time. How do I get the black outlines that I’ve seen on some people’s renders? Hopefully it’s really simple and I’m just missing it. Thanks

In the render (F10) window in the output panel there is an “edge” button turn it on and then play with the edge settings. Note that some of the settings only work with the unified renderer

you’ll need the unified renderer if yo want the edges to apear on transparent objects, too.

in general, don’t expect wonders, the toon edges in blender are in many cases useless. it is because the silhouette-edges of objects are rendered much stronger than creases and folds “inside” of the object (as seen from the camera).

however try it yourself to see if it suits your needs

Often, if one object is in front of another, no edges will be applied, especially if they have the same materials.

Thanks for your help, I was able to do the following, which shows up much better in a B&W manual. I did not use the unified renderer

Thanks again!

I’m guessing, are your doing an earthquake upgrade for a building?

Good guess, it’s the Seismic Zone 4 (i.e. California) set-up for the hangers on the cranes my company sells.

Very good looking results on the outline version, kirpre!
