Toon shading tutorial.

Hi! today I did some experiments with toon shading.
Basically I was playing around with blender features, trying to implement
an old toon shading technique i used back in the day with 3DS2 for DOS
I discovered this myself back then, and many years later i started seeing
it used in other places…

The results were quite cool! here are some screenshots:

Pencil shading:

Flat shading (the one with more resemblance to real toons):

Toon+lighting (not as realistic but it looks cool

The technique is so clean that it even works on the realtime engine

All in all, after going around in #blenderchat, some people semed interested in me making a tutorial about this. The technique is quite
simple but works well and it’s used everywhere including games (I’m
sure zelda cube or jet set use this same technique) It’s all about
understanding the theory behind it.

So, I’d like to make a tutorial about this, but i have nowhere to host it
nor the will or time to mantain an acount in a free server.
Do you people think I could make it and submit it to elysium?

Please let me know!

Looks nice to me
I sure would like to see that tutorial

Interestling…

I never can understand why you want to do something in 3D and then lose the quality with toonshading???

No offenses… I just never can figure it out! :stuck_out_tongue:

It looks cool btw!

Well, 3D’s not about photorealism. Just like 2D art is not about photorealism!

DOWN WITH THE GRAPHICS WHORES!

they look ok, i personally dont like them much… the shading is very choppy

I did some toon shading experiments about two years ago, my results looked something like this:

Because some people prefer it to look 2D. Some people like 2D animation to 3D or 17576D. (I wish!) So, in comes toon shading, and it looks like it’s 2D when it’s really 3D and you can fool your friends!

I play around with toon shading. Unfortunately, I’ve got no web server : (

why do you have a dyndns.org when we cant reach it,
if you have your own webb server…you might have it
online which it isnt at the moment…down !!

so I cant view the stuff
