Changes since the WIP version
-New spire
-Less cloudy
-More colored lighting
-More colors
-Ends of the two visible wings changed
-Other towers match better
-Some texture changes
-Moved the camera a little so you can see you don’t see the whole tower
-Slight detail changes

I think it looks quite a bit better then the WIP I posted earlier.

Enjoy;)

wow. that is really nice. I’d love to see a human in there to get some sense of scale. It seems huge, like a big hotel of like 20 stories. very grand and majestic. good job.

I disagree. It looks like it’s maybe a four foot model. There’s nothing in there to give any sense of scale.

It’s a distinctly average work. You are slipping back to the laziness of the past already.

Heh, my father looked at this too and he said this is the best one I ever done.

As for a human figure since all the flat regions are part of the roof and don’t really have any walkability putting a human there would raise questions of what he’s doing there. A Dragon figure could just fly onto there but the members think I’ve used that Dragon of mine in too many images already.

M@dcow: I did work on this a bit longer then what I’ve done with images of the past (I even used the WIP forum), you might as well consider me having no chance of making anything that doesn’t look lazy.

well, your dad has a vested interest in building your confidence up, so he might not be the best person to listen to when it comes to things like this

So make a new one!

No offense, but that’s bullcrap.

looks pretty good, well at least the modelling/textures…
but you do really need a sky. i think just a simple sky in the background will help out a lot
3 stars

Actually it does have a sky, don’t know how you could’ve missed that, though I noticed if you look uowards at a flatscreen monitor it will seem like there’s nothing in the background.

ah, i see
yeah, i’ve been looking at it for a while now :stuck_out_tongue:
and the more i look, the more i appriciate the textures and modeling
now 4 stars if i could change it
keep up the good work

Ok, CD. This is better. But here’s my crit. The part circled in the photo below is obviously two meshes just sitting on top of one another. There’s got to some way that they join. Does that make sense? If not not, tell me and I’ll try to explain better.

Crap Art..

@CD : improving your standards lately… keep busting!

The lighting could use improvement.
It’s like it was just a frontal giant bulb light just under the camera. And another invisble one just above the “flower” thing.
With a sunlight coming from say 30° right or left the camera, and 20° above the camera, you could underline the shapes with shadows, that would add a lot.
If you want to keep this lighting configuration, it should be imperative that one can SEE what is actually emitting this light just above the ‘flower’, between the converging building parts.

I appreciate, though, that you keep on producing pictures, but maybe you could use the crits and comments given here instead of saying “my Dad says it’s ok”. You seem to have a lot of imagination, and I’m looking forward to seeing more advanced results. Don’t be afraid of spending several days (weeks) on one project, it will only get it better.

EDIT : oh yeah I forgot. Your “industrial alley” was a good piece, for example. With a mood, and with work.

Be well

Interesting model(very cool actually), but it gives the impression of a large-ish model.

The lighting is too uniform, So it all kinda blends together.

And there isnt really a point…You gotta do something with these scenes man…

Those little towers in the background and to the side of the building ruin it for me. Nice model though!

Wow, quite an improvement!

The only thing bothering me is that there isn’t a sense of scale. As already mentioned, it seems more like a model than a large building. Maybe it’s the camera angle? Try moving the camera down a little more so it seems as if you’re looking up to the building, that might fix the scale issue.

EDIT: And don’t mind M@dcow, he’s just being a complete a-hole and trying to start a flame war.

I think I’ve already gotton a healthy mix of comments (which is good for a typical art piece)

And I’m getting 3 stars now instead of 2 as well.

Thanks for all the replies, for those who didn’t like, it’s just a matter of preference I suppose.

EDIT: I know of M@dcow’s comment, it’s not like him to like my art but this forum does have freedom of opinion.

Nice one, Dragon.
I can’t say much technically that hasn’t already been said, so this might be my contribution.
The towers surrounding the building tend to be what clashes, and that would seem to be what somewhat is a problem in quite a few of your scenes. With a solid theme to center the pictures around, such as the rigid yet artsy look of the hotel, these pictures would seem more unified. As it is, the surrounding towers seem to me to be something you might find dotting the land around some ancient civilization.

All in all, excellent work. Looking forward to seeing some more of your stuff crop up in the WIP board.

:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

EDIT: And don’t mind M@dcow, he’s just being a complete a-hole and trying to start a flame war.

oh, really? CD basically said that he isn’t capable of doing better work than this, which as I pointed out is total bullshit. Check his two previous works, they are far superior.

and before you pull out the total a-hole card, perhaps you should check my comments on his last work, I gave him 5 stars for effort. I am not trying to start a flame war here, I’m simply stating my opinion.

Thanks, I added the other towers because the main tower alone kind of made the scene look a little empty.

Yes I do know how to use Blender and use it well, you’ve seen my tests in the tests forum and you can see I can make stuff look pleasing. I also however was going for the top of a tower in this image, I was origionally going for a fancy crown look like on the chrysler building in New York, but I kind of took my own turns with this image.

I have put this in WIP first to gather suggestions and then I applied them like a new fancier spire and ditching the spikes on the end of the building. Anyone had the chance to add his own suggestion in before I called it complete. My mind is currently flooded with ideas of new images that I would work at least more then a day on. I figure I could get the smaller projects out of the way before working on the bigger ideas.

The image I’m working on now I plan to have heavy use of the volumetric texture technique talked about in the tests forum for geometric circuit type procedurals.

Oh, and M@dcow does have freedom of opinion, I don’t expect him to like all my works the same way BgDM said RobertT’s cave work does nothing for him.
