Top View

Is top view an above view from the front or an above view from a side? I assume it is the former. However when I started reading this tutorial at blueprints.com, I became confused, as it shows the top view being from a side.

yes, it can be confusing, because you can make it whatever you want. Convention holds that Z is up/down (like gravity), X is left/ right and Y is toward you /away from you, which is Front view. Top view is thus as if you stood up and looked down on your desk. Side view would then be if you got out of your chair, walked around to the right side of your desk, did a left face and bent down.

so, in blueprinting, you have to match up the correct image perspective with the correct view.
