:'(

But what about the guy who will shoot you while you read the book?

Things must be made safe so that we and our children can read books. I do not like violence, but I realize in this world, peace is not a real goal. Chaos is abundant, and forever in production. As we all know, in a cooler, the coolant solution does not just naturally stay cool. If must be compressed first. If peace is to be, then pressure must either be, or be prepared, to be exerted.

I was just picking your brain. I don’t discount conspiracy theories. In your country, they are not welcome in this point and time. Dissent, is as almost as saying I’m with them and not with us. I know the FBI use Carnivore. Sorry, if you were insulted, I’m a pacifist, but a fighter and the same time. I like a good adebate, it’s healthy.

If someone is going to shoot you while are reading a book, it’s more likely that it is a crackehead trying to steal your belonging to get the next fix.

Don’t believe everything CNN tells you. Take it easy, fear sells newspapers and airtime and commercials.

Or a Nazi, or strict communist (if it’s the wrong book)

But the point is the same. Look at what happened in Isreal a little big ago, at the University. Those were young people trying to get and education. Many I’m sure with dreams to make this world a better place. And look what happened to them.

Don’t believe everything CNN tells you. Take it easy, fear sells newspapers and airtime and commercials.

Plus CNN tend to be the most government influenced station out there. I usually preferr FOX news. They seem to have a little more personality than the others. Especailly Shep Smith and the Fox Report. He always does a great job.

Ok. this is what I think. I would be very interested in finding out what views you have on my views. I suspect that my views are not politicly correct.

I took a very selfish stand on the whole 9/11 thing. I enjoyed watching it on the news for the days it happened. And I found it a fun event to take part in. I didnt really care for the people that died. I still dont. I didnt really care for the people that died in afganistan, just find it a bit sad that they seam to be “less” important then the americans and brittish and whatnot that died in the eyes of the media.

And why do I do this?
Because I do dont care when an earthquake hits. I dont care when some country gets flooded. Ive grown up with this shit all my life and ive been saturated with it. Its all become entertainment to me.

I would love to have felt sorrow on 9/11. But I didnt and I very well cant force myself to do it, if I felt sad then, well, I think I should feal sad every day. Just think of all people that die of hunger and other poverty related events throught the world every day. Its much more evil that we in the western world “let” that happen imho. That said, I dont donate any money to them even thoguh I think I/we should, why is that? Becouse I dont really care.

Anyone think this makes me evil?
I think it just proves that I watch to much media on tv.

Actually, dude. Get a short wave radio and listen to everything from all points of view and read between the lines.

Green, I understand how you feel. Sometimes I feel like I am cruel and do not know what love is. And it scares me when I do not feel anything, because it makes me feel even more alone in a world in which I alread feel lonely. So by trying to open myself to an event, and let it actually get to my heart, then it makes me feel all that more human, and actually part of something. I do not fear death, but life. Because if in ones life, you do not feel, then what is it for. I’m afraid to trap myself in a prison of logic, that shields me from the things that make us all human. It is the humanity that keeps me concious of my daily life. Especially in this time in my life. Because when you are depressed, having a fear of life, and no fear of death, can be a very devastating thing.

Oh well, I need to get some things done. I would love to hang around and chat though. But either way, well see how things go. If we all just accept each other, and put all opinions into the collective, then things will work themselves out.

God bless not only America, but the world. We can all use a little extra help in our lives.

Mr. Green . You are not evil, just numbed by oversaturation of media. Marshall McLuhan and Neil Postman did interesting studies on this(pre 9/11).

Ok , Acasto. No hard feelings. Peace. I have an open mind, but I live in a world that requires me to criticize everything, even if it does not agree with populous beliefs.

hey wow, i go to watch blade 2 for 2 hours, i come back and a flame war was started AND ended… well at least i get to reply before/if the topics locked and say:

“make lover not war”

u heard the man! acasto, cree, go make some love

I just saw Blade 2 tonight also

It would be hard to put any more action in an alloted time period as they did in that one.

Hey Green. I agree with the others - you’re not sick, just a bit numb. That’s why I don’t watch any of that crap. No TV news. I rarely even read news articles with big pictures attached. Mostly text. It doesn’t allow my gut to short-circuit my brain while I digest the news.

CNN sucks. Most Americans DO NOT - repeat DO NOT - agree with or even like the way that almost all of the news channels present things. That’s why their ratings suck, and why they try ever-more-desparately to collect those eyeballs with shock video and pandering sensationalism.

I feel the same way as you do - I’m not more than intellectually sad for those who died on 9/11. We’re all going to die. People are dying and being tortured/starved/maimed/ruined every single day around the world, inside the US and outside. Life often consists of cruelty and pain. As I explained earlier, what made me sad/furious about 9/11, and perhaps you can relate more to this, is that for a few hours on that day, I saw an assault being brought against my way of life. No one here was sure how many more planes were on the way. How many car bombs? How many lunatics with bombs strapped to their stomachs are heading for my local mall? I could see my life, the future lives of my two kids, veer off in a direction most horribly not what I had wanted.

I had to face the possibility of the potential, dramatic, hellish end of life as I know it. Is that something to get pissed about? You’d better believe it.

You say that you really enjoyed it? Really really? It’s one thing to be immune to the knowledge of day-to-day sufferring, or to not be affected by yet another death on the TV news. But if you actually enjoyed it, I would urge you to inspect yourself a little. Taking pleasure (enjoyment) upon the pain of others IS a pathology. Are you religious? Are your parents alive/around/can you talk to them? Do you have siblings? It sounds like (from the limited info in your post) that you may have a problem.

Trust me, life is better when you can feel something. You just have to be a little more careful where you invest your time.

And if you still don’t care/can’t see my perspective, just wait. Once we make it too hard for the terrorists to hit us anymore (or they pound us into the sand and they’re finished with us), someone else will be next. Maybe your country won’t be first. Maybe it will. Maybe you won’t care until some dude with an AK-47 shows up at your door and tries to force you to pray to Allah before he blows your brains out. Maybe even then you won’t care.

Or maybe, the Americans will, once again, play an integral part in the fight against tyranny/forced thought, and you won’t ever have to have it show up on your doorstep like it showed up on mine. And then you can continue not to care. In OUR world, that’s allowed. In THEIR world, it might not be.

I couldnt care less for the people or what they fealt. Thats the point, if I care for them then I havto care for a whole lot of other people aswell, more people then I could possibly care about.

Watching airplanes fly into buildings was fun. Better then most movies.
This is what I meant. I took it on a selfish level. As entertainment, as I do with all interesting news on tv, good or bad.

I belive many people do this aswell on other events. For example when they showed satelite images of the rockets hitting afganistan. I think many people took that as very interesting and fun. But didnt give a damn about the actuall people getting blown up.

I feel sorry for you, Green.

Not that you care…

Now, can this discussion be moved to the Off-Topic forum, pleeease?

who cares? :stuck_out_tongue:

3 planes have hit their targets, which I think was still a pretty damn good job. (ever tried flying a plane?).
“american engineering” / “brave Americans” that just sounds lame dude, get over your silly patriotism since it’s what’s gotten america in this position in the first place.
50,000 people worked in the building,… 50,000 people weren’t present in the building.
“quick grounding” yeah really hard to do, if the fbi and cia americans had done their american jobs in teh first american way they could have stopped it.

Personally I really like BBC World, they seem to be a very objective news station. which is actually interested in bringing news rather than sensation.
One of the things I disliked most about CNN was the fact that some silly reporter started talking about god (christian) and that she knew for surtain that there wasn’t anyone that didn’t think about it while watching an attack like that. Basicly I found that extremely bad journalism and very unappropriate since it was after all a religiously tinted attack.

To Green:
I share your opinion in a way. Though I did definately feel grief / anger, when looking at the attacks. It indeed still somehow had a ‘entertaining’ value (note that I feel a bit wrong about using that word). I don’t think of this as just another disaster like a flood or an earthquake, since this is actually the deliberate killing of human lives. Which could have been prevented in many ways.
I don’t feel sad or anything about the victims, since victims are an every day thing. I do feel ‘sad’ though about the fact that some people can take it this far.

Yes!

Okay, i’ll post, even if this is very largely off-topic.

I think I can understand Green’s point of view, but I don’t totally share it. Actually, when we saw the pics, in direct-live-sensational-break-world-wide tv… the people I was with (friends and not friends) and I just had the same though:
it’s the end! we feared the one who did this… but as hours/days went by
the feeling changed:
Finally, somebody had dared!
I also thought I would’nt have liked being in those towers, or around. Being a relative… well things happen don’t they? Loosing someone in a car accident or in this has the same consequence…
We also discussed and the main question which came out was: “How will they react?” - “They”, the USA inhabitants. They following days were funny, and ermmm, disgusting from what the TV showed us. It was sooo stereotypized (well, spelling doesn’t matter so much… does it?).
At the end of the week, on Friday morning, most europeans respected silence for 1 minute… why? Anyways, we did it, our government asked for it.

Now a few questions...

About Afghanistan... Does anyone now what sort of interests there are over there? What about this: Petroleum...

Who's occupating Afghanistan? ... it's an easy one.

Who's got a lot of petroleum in it's own territory? A who needs it the most? (= who produces 1/4 of Corbone dioxide rejected into the atmosphere)

What happens if Iraq is attacked? Hint: it's related with petroleum. It's price will go straight up.

Now make your own conclusions.

Gosh! I hate all this oil business around the world... it spoils everything sooo much.

Just to say:
Do you (USA inhabitant… I wouldn’t want to say American, for I am an american…) think you country is ABSOLUTLY INNOCENT?
Don’t you understand that the world’s present situation was (mostly) a consequence about the USA messing around in other countries politics? This whole instability, this integrism didn’t appear spontaneously.

This is a reaction, like fever is a reaction to a bactirium.

If Mr. Bish attacks Iraq without the UNO’s approval, I wouldn’t even dare imagine how badly that great democratical country would be seen.

Be sure to be correctly informed, browse the net… not only yahoo or google, nor times. Search for the things you don’t know. It’s kind of weird… but just criticize EVERYTHING you hear or see… ABSOLUTLY AVERYTHING. Compare information from != sources…
There is much more to say than what has been said in this thread.

Anyway, this is, once again, off-topic. Flame me if you want I don’t care. I just wish I could engage a war against the weather… remember Mitch and his 10,000 (at least) victims… hum, what a terrorist!
I’m now largely off-topic so goodbye

Dani

oh. I had forgotten about the stereotype usa people the news showed.

I hate to do this; however, I have to point out that it was Americans who blew up the Oklahoma building and killed children in a day care centre because they resented the fact or were paranoid that the ATF would take away their “god given” right to own an AK-47. Why isn’t that commemorated with the same flag waving fervour? Is it because most of those children were from single Black mothers on welfare rather than New York stock brokers who died spectacularly in front of TV cameras.

It is also suspected that an American is putting nasty packages of white powder in the mail. Furthermore, statistically, you are more likely to get killed by someone in your country using a legally bought handgun stolen from your law abiding neighbour’s house while breaking into your house or robbing you on the street to get his crack fix. Fix your own house before pointing your finger and using these parochial Us and Them analogies.

The media tends to make people forget their own contradictions and their own history when it becomes convenient. Your point is quite valid and well taken, but so is mine.

Final point, Rick Mercer,a Canadian comic, from This Hour has 22 minutes went to New York city several years ago disguised as a reporter and did a man on the street style interview. He interviewed average Joe and Josephine and asked them if they agreed that the US should bomb Canada because Canadians were illegally fishing off US waters and stealing silverfish away from American fisherman. Most interviewees said yes. Oh, by the way silverfish are insects, which live in moist areas, such as bathrooms. Mind you, he probably interviewed people that told him he was trying to pull a fast one; nonetheless, there are still some pretty scary, ignorant, and belligerent people within your own country. And it is to them that I say God Bless America because they really really need it.
