Thanks for putting this in the right place mars, I like your entry too. Ok everyone we are playing for a $50 gift card (is that reasonable) to amazon.com. This is what I want to reproduce in 3D: It will be used for video, if that matters. I would also like the paint to have more depth. Um… if I’m missing something let me know. I can’t think of anything else right now.

oh ya, need a close date, um… life’s pretty hectic right now, gotta move in January, computer will be down for a while. So lets go first week in Feb. so that would be Feb 3rd. After that date entries will be judged and a winner chosen.

Oh how I laughed, “these guys have no idea what a
Beta tape looks like” i thought to myself as I pushed
and pulled verts for about 2 hours.
Thats 2 hours of my life I will never see again, I
never realised how many different formats of video
cassettes there are/were. I figured there was only
one Betamax. Not too bad as the proportions of betamax
and beta SP are similar as far as I can make out.
Can anyone tell me what is written along the flap that
protects the tape? all I can see is an arrow in Mars images.

Ok here is my first entry…will definetly have to go back and work on that paint drip.
Splund, I couldnt ever find a decent image that showed what it said, so I just but blender up there with the logo…as you can see.

I had some good fun making this, even tried fluid
simulation for the paint drip, but it didnt work too
well so I had to resort to subsurf.

Looking great guys, keep it up. If I have time tomorrow at work, I will try and take some snapshots of a beta for everyone to use as a reference.
I think yours is the truest(yeah, now its a word ;P)to the original, radulan, nice work.

From the ref pics… I’m wondering which do you want… photo real, kinda real, or toon?
I want a stylized look like the flat version I posted, just posted references because there are no real good pictures online I thought, and there might be folk out there that don’t know what a beta tape looks like.
It seems I may have got carried away with the amount of paint on
my last entries, so this time, less paint, thinner paint, two drips and
both colours as per the sketch. Also highlighted the case texture
with better lighting.
