Tornado Tutorial

Greetings. Does anyone know where I might find a tutorial on how to make a twister in Blender? I’ve searched everywhere with no results. Thanks in advanced!

That’s probably because there aren’t any yet (particle physics are pretty new), however you might find something useful in the Blender Tutorial Index or off of www.justfuckinggoogleit.com %| .

I don’t know if this idea might work or not, It just popped into my head as I read your post.

Have you tried using the screw tool to create that tornado mesh, then convert the tornado’s mesh verticies to halos?

For the halo settings, it would ofcourse be a dark grey one and the halo themselves should be the normal spherecial halo rather the stars or lines.

Give it a try, might work

Here’s a very shothand reply (My wife’s about to call me for dinner!)

You might be able to do it by making a cylinder, extrude it several times so it’s got lots of layers. Scale these layers to make the funnel shape, then make some bones up it to control the bending.

Texture it with, say a small cloud texture with lots of alpha and use an empty for the texture co-ords. Now rotate the empty to get a spinning effect in the tornado (in animation of course. For a still, you.ll want to turn on Motion Blur to get the spinning texture)

Now use your particles for the “touchdown” debris!

Make sense? You’ll be able to find out how to do all the above in the documentation and variously in these forums.

Cheers.
