Hello when starting a new pose in a walk cycle before I move the torso I used to put a 3d cursor on the gear icon- thigh_parent for rigify because that’s where the head of the femur is and then I select rotate bone around 3d cursor and I select the torso and rotate it around the 3d cursor. Because when I use an animation reference it seems in real life my hips turn around the head of my femur. Obviously in anatomy that not how the body works but it just seems like it. So to me it would make sense for the 3d character’s torso bone to rotate around the head of the femur area to start the pose then transform move the torso. But maybe rotating the torso on its original pivot point is the better system, which one is more optimal in the reader’s experience?
Usually a rig has some hierarchical structure and to move something one select one element of that structure and the “substructure” follows along.
Since you seems to have selected multiple parts of the rig (?) and have set the Transform Pivot Point set to 3D Cursor this is a mix of the center of the 3D cursor and the structure i guess.
So i guess “Active Element” would be a better choice (?)
Hi, i think it will look unnatural if the torso head and shoulders turn at the same time on the walk cycle. I always animate them individually.
Hello @Okidoki and @digitvisions
Sorry for the confusion the top video is option 1 where I rotate the torso using active element and the bottom video is option 2 where I rotate sound the pivot point of the head of the femur. I dint animate this way I just selected the hands so they didn’t get in the way of the view of the rotation of the torso my question was more just regarding the torso bone and not any other bone should I animate it using active element or select one of the heads of the femurs and cursor to selected and rotate from that point? Just taking about the torso bone, Should the torso rotate around its original origin point in the center or should it rotate the sides of the pelvis like in the second video in the walk cycle was more my question
Thank you both for taking time out of your day to respond and ask you do for blenderartists
Yes that’s how i would do it.
@digitvisions thank you, best regards to you
