totally crappy lego wallpaper, come see how crap it is

when i wake up i’ll blur it for you and make it all nice and pretty in photo shop.

but for now here is the render

done with a fake GI dome and nothing else

material needa bit of work but it is ok for now

can you explain the fake GI dome?

ok i got an ico sphere with 2 sub divisions.

i chopped off the bottom of it and set it up so that the middle was about the middle of my objects. i then placed an empty in the centre and created a spot lamp on 0.3 brightness and parented it to the ico shpere and had it tracking towards the empty.

you then duplivert the icosphere. and make them real.

you now have about 30+ lamps from every direction you can think of.

make the shadows softer than normal.

then render (you may want to add a dominant lamp to siulate the sun etc… but in this case i prefered it without)

anyway render time was about 20 mins even with a shadow size of the smallest

I really like the lighting… but I have one question, how do you make the dupliverted lamps “real”?

wowee. that is yummy. good to see some stuff from you AT, you’ve been busy with the Exodus, so we havent seen much from you, but this is fantastic.

exellent bevelling too, i might add, just perfect.

Looks good to me. Nice lighting. Is this what you were trying to yaf last night?

For those of you with questions regarding the lighting: both of your questions have been answered numerous times in tutorials and in these forums. I’'m not trying to be a prick. Just trying to save you some trouble

Nice work btw

very cool! i think it is very crappy :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks guys.

and modron yeah this is what i wasted hours trying to yaf LOL

stupid damn yafray, in the end blender did it fine

Alltaken

oh BTW
Ctrl+Shift+A makes duplis real

very nice! new wallpaper for me!

i love it.

what does making it “real” actually do though!?

alltaken, you are a Blender GI wiz. Yafray, well it’s the best thing that we folks got for Blender GI scenes. It’s low on system memory. Blender GI Dome renders suck up memory like a vacuum. I know. I use GI dome in Blender all the time but I have the system memory to back it up. Forreal.

Yafray GI is light on your system memory resources. I can hook you up to a little Yafray GI scene that you can breakdown and check out.

Check it here-

Scroll down to the area with the JA_forreal_Glass_Caustics.jpg file info. Follow the download instructions for both the Blend file and the XML.

Use Blender Publisher for this file for great results. This gui of yafray won’t work in Blender 2.28.

Rename, extract and run the Blend.zip file. Alt-P the Yafray gui and select a light, object, etc. and a press “Get selected” for a corresponding function button in the gui. Leave the “Lamp” unchanged for now. I normally use that for Photon lighting. Just set the Spot light to a Sun light in the gui at 90 or 80 power with shadow. Set your materials to generic, Spec 0 and autosmooth then assign. Click the Hemi Light. Set the Samples to 64 and the Power to 2.0.

In the Render buttons press- INC, Updated meshes and turn on any Layers that you need to render. Leave a the antiA and res settings alone. Select the Export button. Your file should automatically end up in -
C:\yablex\Ja_forreal_Castics\Ja_forreal_Castics.xml

Just run the XML.

This Yafray script is rock solid with Blender Publisher. If you follow my steps you have just got a taste of my Yafray assembly line. Did I put ya ta work or what!

A nice YAPBR (Yet Another Pure Blender Render)

@ner

LOL thanks bro, GO YAPBR/ YARFB (yet another render from blender LOL)

JA-forreal

A) i have 1 Gb of ram, memory is no issue, i didn’t even touch the surface of my memory LOL

B) yeah i tried to export to yafray but it was taking way to long and not working for crap (my witness’s are in #blender chat LOL) i was having so many issues with scripts etc… that i just gave up in the end

but yeah it did take a long time to render due to the CPU power involved (especially since the scene is 29K faces (thats small for me but still rather large)

anyway thanks for the advice but yeah i’ve already tried that crap and i got frustrated, personally i rather like the blender render.

GX Monkey.

A) where did the F go from your name, plese insert the F back into it coz GFX makes sense and GX doesn’t

B) whats this about making it “real” ? did i make it real? i dunno what you mean.

anyway thanks bro

-Yeah for high polycout scenes the export times can be long. Ant if you have uv mapped objects that’s another issue, you have to manually assign them for Yafray with the gui. But in many cases it’s all worth it because of the beautiful renders that you get with Yafray.

JA-forreal

my scripts both extractor and yableX were crashing to the badest, my output files would be corrupt and missing bits and wouldn’t render in yafray witout errors everywhere.

basicly thats the reason i didn’t use yafray, i certainly did try to but found ti to be impossible. i’ll try again some day but by then i have a feeling yafray will be more intergrated into blender, perhaps with just a render button type thing (fingers crossed) but hey i’m happy with the blender version

Alltaken

yafray this yafray that… not everything needs to be yaffed.

congrats alltaken, first finished project?

it’s a bit BIG and “too close” to be a wallpaper of my choice. makes me nervous somehow…

otherwise, turned out quite nice.

.b

totally agree on that one.

i will have another one that will be more pleasing to the eye some time with smaller pieces.

i felt the same way as you about it.

That render brings back memories of my first lego set my uncle gave me as a gift.

Is there any chance you can post the source .blend file? I’d like to see if I can render it in PovRay.

You can PM me if you prefer.

wow! it has awakened my inner child. If anyone wants me I’ll be playing with my Lego in the basement! (not joking)

What? Exodus is about LEGOS??

Nice work! I am a lover of GI domes too.
