Just keeps getting better! What about going the whole hog and adding steamwhimsy road vehicles & dirigibles? It’s a whole new world and I want to go and live there.
Cheers, Chuff.
I always wanted to smuggle brandy! Thanks for the kind words, I have raised the sun’s strength to 4 from 1.5 - is this better, or have I overdone it?
Here’s my latest progress - “Bertie” the steam truck, he’s come to collect the contraband…
Cheers, Clock.
yes, personally I prefer with the stronger sun! another thing that I would change is the background… the grey smoke is a bit depressing, I would put a beautiful blue sky! (but again this is my point of view, you don’t have to agree!) I love all the details you put on these models!!! I feel that you will need to add some playmobil characters or similar at some point!
TBH I think the perfect background would be to set the thing in a large kid’s playroom. Have the train in a low pen like it is now, set it on a carpet floor, and posters or whatever on the walls. It wouldn’t need to be a full architectural interior render, just enough around the edges of the train set to make it feel like toys in a large room.
@mathias and @ Gumboots - it was my plan to put this in a room at some point later on, at the moment it is just a “Studio” HDRI background to improve the lighting. I like the idea of a kid’s room, I hadn’t thought of that. I intend to model some of the characters from the Smallbrook Studio’s website (see first post), again once I am happy with the rest of the project.
I also need to finish the “Oyster Beach” station - there is just the ice-cream hut so far, and put some buildings and other scenery around “Pilgrims Fiddle” station. So much still to do…
Thanks to both for the comments.
Cheers, Clock.
I have had a quick go at a kid’s room:
Am I on the right track? (pardon the pun for a rail project - perhaps I should have said “Is this on the right lines?” Oh dear, it’s getting worse, but you see my points… OK I’ll stop that now.)
Cheers, Clock.
PS I know it needs some work on the image line-up, but its just the idea…
It’s far too tidy for a kid’s room.
@Gumboots - ROFL - yes I need to spread clothes and toys everywhere. I seem to remember bedrooms where you couldn’t see the carpet…
Cheers, Clock.
really cool the kid room! I like it for the background. Actually if you put the ToyStory wall paper, that will be a cartoony sky with clouds.
But just a quick advise, don’t spend too much time on the background. Go back to the train set, since it’s your focus! If you want to make an animation of it, work the camera, the story, the cutting, and then you will see what needs more detail. If you want to make an amazing image, set your camera and work everything that is in its field!
But now you have a very cool atmosphere!
Mathias.
Thanks @MatiasA - I have tidied up the “room” and will now go back to the models. Smallbrook Studios have now made contact with me over this project - and it is encouraging to hear the nice comments from the owner. I will now go back to the trains themselves and get these and the layout finished - this will take some time I think!
Smallbrook Studio’s website is here: http://www.smallbrookstudio.co.uk/home/4569521208
Here is the updated room, minus all the clutter normally found in boys’ rooms!
Cheers, Clock.
PS. There is a prize for anyone correctly identifying the location seen through the window.
Yeah that’s easy. You tell me the res of your screen, and I’ll tell you the location of stuff in the window.
I am about to be impressed @Gumboots.
Screen is; 1440 x 900 - photo was 3888 x 2592 taken with a 10mm focal length lens, date; 24 Jan 2014, time; 07:24 Zulu (Pilots will know what that means).
Cheers, Clock.
I was just winding you up. I was going to give the coordinates on the screen for the location.
Ha Ha! From what I gather in some of your posts, (I am making assumptions of approximately where you live) you may have a better idea of where it is than many others…
Cheers, Clock.
Last one of the room before I get back to the trains:
It now appears that I have two more engines to look at…
Hint on the location - there are some fairly new wind generators just beyond me (Oh no there aren’t - Oh yes there are! He said in true pantomime style), that the locals are very proud of.
Cheers, Clock.
PS. I want a room like this - I must chat to Mrs. Clockmender.
Done some more work with layout background and scenery, and added the new tank engine “Hattie”.
Cheers, Clock.
I live in Australia, mate. I have NFI where you Poms are plonking your wind generators.
The new engine is done well, but it looks odd having a tank engine with a separate tender. I assume this is down to the original creator of the series taking a few liberties.
If you take the room itself further I’d be toning down the carpet, etc a bit to make the train set stand out more. At the moment there’s a bit too much competition IMO (I realise it’s just a quick bash at it).
@Gumboots - the picture was taken in Australia whilst I was visiting the Convicts…
And the only people plonking wind generators in the UK are the Norwegians!
I will tone down the carpet a little, as you say it’s just a “bash” at the moment.
Thanks for the kind words as ever.
Cheers, Clock.
