Trackball rotation weird in Blender when nothing is selected. Does anyone use it?

Hi, I am coming from Modo and I used to love the trackball rotation style for navigation back when I used Modo. With Blender, it seems to me like it’s just a bit different no matter what type of settings you do.

The issue is that when you have nothing selected and the trackball is on and you rotate the camera seems to be rotating around something that is not very consistent.

As long as you have something selected and “orbit around the selected” is enabled things work quite similar as in Modo. Once you don’t have anything selected the Blenders trackball is behaving a bit weird. The issue is that when you have nothing selected and the trackball on and you rotate the camera seems to be rotating around something that seems to be moving every time you rotate or move the camera.

The auto depth would fix this but the issue is then that with trackball I usually drag from corners of the viewport to rotate around the camera axis. If you have depth on it will rotate around that point where you click so it does not help much either.

I hope this makes sense. If anyone is coming from Modo and figured how to get a similar trackball rotation setup in Blender I would be excited to hear how to do that.
