transformation

Ok i was rescently reading a manga, and there was a few characters that could turn into stuff like the princess turns into a mermaid and such, now i was wondering a few things

Firstly would it be possible to make a transformation like this in a similar way that you would transform the shape of a mouth to change a persons facial expression

I will explain what i mean in more detail though, basically in this example, of course you would only need to transform its feet, but could you change the shape so that the vertices then meet up in the middle and then have it so that the colour changes to indicate the transformation to a tail.

If this is not possible, then what would you recommend i could do to make such a transformation happen

Theoretically it can be done (morphing) but you have to use the same Mesh with exactly the same verts. Makes joining two tubular legs into one tubular tail a painful experience - but not impossible. Probably better to pull the crotch down to the soles of the feet. You could also fake it by replacing one mesh with another while the legs are in the water and the camera is momentarily distracted by… imagination.

LOL i was thinking of that, you know changing the mesh, but i also figured i wanted to make a few different people who could turn into different animals, i know ive only been learning blender for a month but i always believe to learn the easy stuff if you learn the hard stuff at the same time as the easy stuff it will quicken my learning lol.

Well now you know what to search for. Blender doesn’t do morphing but it’s been asked a 1000 times, so you should get some ideas.

well blender may not do morphing xD but i just did a quick test, never made it as an animation but i tested the leg experment, i selected all the vertices down the leg, and scaled em down the z axis, and it pulled the crotch area into the centre forming what looks like could be made into a tail, so theoretically i can still give the illusion of a morph without morphing it, the only part that remains is, can you change the texture colour at all

Yes, you can, but how you do it will depend on whether you’re using Material, UV or Nodal Textures.

my current set up is a node editor for the skin
