transforming duplicate objects - question

I’m having a frustrating time with duplicate objects:

I’m duplicating an an object (in Object mode, using Shift +D), and then rotating it. I’m using v 2.5 on OS X 10.7.

However, when I drag or rotate the original or the duplicate, both objects are transformed.

I can still transform the object separately in the transform pane of the object editing panel.

How can I duplicate an object and move it independently? I have tried separating (but the meshes are mirrored), and I read something about modifying the block in the IPO editor, but it seems the changes in 2.5 have gotten rid of the IPO editor…

Sorry for the dumb question, any help appreciated!

So it seems that dragging or rotating ANY object in the world also transforms all other objects.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I’m sure it’s obvious.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Turn off proportional editing on the 3d view header or shortcut O
The objects have the same origin point so no matter how small the proportional editing circle is it will affect all objects

but it seems the changes in 2.5 have gotten rid of the IPO editor…
