Im a blender Newbie, so please excuse me if this is a no-brainer question.
I’ve created a very simple paper plane animation that i’ll be bringing into flash. Im battling to get a transparent background, so that only the animation is revealed.
I have tried the following render output settings:
AVI, MPEG and quicktime
RGBA
There is no background (world). It works when i render a sequence of RGBA .png’s, but surely there is an easier way, ie: straight to movie format render?
Im using 2.5 Beta, and its pretty tough to find any documentation.
Quicktime works, but you need to use the right codec. On my machine (OS X) it defaults to “JPEG” which can’t embed Alpha. The “UNCOMPRESSED” setting will, but it produces a very large filesize. If you know how to work with image sequences, then I suggest you use PNG or TGA – those hold alpha information wonderfully. (Name your output file something like “animation_####.png” and numbers will appear where the “#” are.) I don’t think you’ll have much success with MPEG.
Also, under shading tab, you can choose whether to use a straight or premultiplied matte. This can make a difference in the end, so be sure to experiment and figure out which one works for you (I find that premultiplied works better with most apps).
Thanks for the advice, i do know how to work with image sequences, just thought there’d be a shortcut Still no luck with the Quicktime either. Its weird, because i could do it in the older version of Blender. Anyways, i’ll keep fiddling. Thanks again for the help.
