Transparent faces while on editmode.

Hi, here´s my doubt:
I´m modelling a low-poly character using with two reference images (front and side) applied on planes. In order for me to see the reference images I must use Textured View on the viewport, but I can´t see through the mesh I´m modelling so I have to sort of guess where is the right spot to place an edge or a vertex. If use Wireframe view I see through but I can´t see the reference image. Either weay I can´t see the image in a clear way. In MAX there´s the Alt-X shortcut to make the selected mesh translucent. Is there something like it in Blender?
So: is it possible to have an object in texture view and another one in wireframe? I hope I made myself clear.

Select your model, then go to the Object window (F7) then to the Draw panel, push the “Wire” button from the Drawtype group.
Now your model will be drawed as wire in textured view (in fact in every view). To make the object appear solid again push the “Shaded” button in the same panel

EDIT: I forgot to tell you, blender has a feature that allows you to insert an image as a background in the 3D Window. You can control the transparency of the image, and you can see it in every view (wire, solid, shaded and textured). On the header of the 3D Window, in the View menu, select Background image. When the panel opens, select the reference image for your model, tweak the settings to suit your needs and there you have it.

have you tried pressing z. Anyway you can try and make your background image more opaque, tthat should help.

Hi, yes I pressed Z.
Thanks Zazu, that was exactly what I wanted.
And yes, I knew about the background image, but sometimes the images seem out of proportion, (or maybe is just me, go figure) I like to use the textured plane technique because I can control the size of the plane.

Thank you guys.

On the material of your plane, set the alpha value (below the r g b coulor sliders) to what youd like to make it see through , now press F7 and in the draw pane switch on transp, it will now be transparent while its in object mode.
