Transparent texture has weird Multiply effect?

I am making a cloud fly through with textured cards, but I am using the source image as a factor value to drive the transparent shader. When I do this the obscured cards behind the first cloud get a strong multiply effect instead of just being opaqued out?

Is there a better way to use an image as a psuedo alpha channel? Should I just go and make keyed versions of the images? How would I set alpha then?
Here is the .blend http://www.pasteall.org/blend/18002 , it has images paked and weighs 2MB. thanks in advance.

Also I wonder if I can fade the transparency of the card as the camera passes through the plane? Can I use a input node for that?
