Transparent texture is eating my halo....

I have run into a problem with a halo and transparent texture. I have a box that is textured with an image that has an alpha layer, making the box appear to have holes in it. In front of the box I have a sphere with a halo material attached. When the sphere with halo is positioned anywhere in front of the transp texture relative to the camera, the halo renders BEHIND the transp texture, regardless of camera angle. Anyone with any ideas what I’m doing wrong?
