Trap Door.

Ok forgive me if this is the dumbs Q? ever posted.
I’m looking to make a trap door in a scene where a robot would pop out of a floor. Now i no I can just have a plane and knock a square hole out of it but I don’t want the door to be visible before it is opened and wanted to get some takes on how else it can be done.

why not have two copies of the floor and move the 'solid floor to another layer and the trapdoor floor from another layer (ie swap on the frame) - there is option on the [i] menu

Ive tested it and it works fine
