With the Sapling Add-on, it is fairly straightforward to make a tree in Blender.
However, for me the problem is creating realistic leaves. Sapling offers 2 options - rectangular or hexagonal leaves.
Problem is how to convert them to true leaves - maple, ivy etc?
An example of my tree is attached.
Hi Edsa there is a tutorial for using the Sapling addon and doing the leaves, “Blender Nerd” did it I think. There’s a few stages to it and it’s probably better to watch the tut.
Thanks, Jay. Actually it was Greg Zaal’s tutorial in Blender Nerd that led me to Sapling. Like Zaal, I divided the leaves into 3 random batches (he used 5) and textured them separately. He too starts with rectangular leaves but but his explanation as to how derives the leaf shape is rather sparse and not clear to me.
I think I’d asked him and maybe I should try again.
