I have every time a new version of Blender has been released (since Tripod solve was added) tried to solve a horrible tripod track I have. It is handheld (very jerky) and me rotating my head so it is a Tripod move - but a really nasty one.
I have no problems getting sufficient trackers but the solve is never good. Error is too high and when I place a 3D object I always get some slide and jumping. I am close to concluding that the solve is just too hard for the Blender tracker in its current state.
I have downloaded both the learning edition of Syntheyes and PFMatchIT. Both of these solve (with little manual intervention) and when I add objects they look very stable. Of course with the fact that I have the learning edition I am not able to export the camera tracks to be really sure it has worked - but it appears to have worked.
I am very close to saying I have wasted enough time getting Blender to track this shot and have tried on and off for a year or 2 it is time to stop and just fork out for either Syntheyes or PFMatchIt - they are both “affordable”.
I have decided to post this to see if I can get any informed opinion about the quality of Blenders tripod solve v the tripod solve for Syntheyes and PFMatchIT.
A clear statement that it is worse, or a clear statement that it is not much worse but you have to work 100x harder doing manual tracking etc would be enough to convince me I am right.
Any advice/opinion?
