Trouble with converting a bezier to a ploy

While trying to create a… well I don’t really know what this type of surface this is. While trying to create this thing, I decided to use a Bezier circle that used a Bezier curve as the BevObject. After tweaking it to get the shape I wanted, I hit the covert to poly button.

And the I got the object on the right.

How can I preserve the original shape when converting the curve to a poly?



Best bet would be to create a copy of the object first. I think you may want to consider converting to a mesh instead. Try creating a copy of the object, then press Alt c convert to mesh and see if that is what you are looking for.
