I’ve just added a GPU to my system in the last few days that has allowed me to upgrade to 2.83 YAY!!!
A few times while rendering though I return to my computer to finder Blender has shut down. One occasion I had 2 instances of 2.83 and one of 2.79 running at the same time (which might have been an issue) but on another 3 times it was only the rendering instance open.
Is there a way to find out when and why this might have happened?
I’m running Windows 7 (64 bit), 2nd Gen i5 3.3GHz, 12G RAM, GTX1650 (just installed). Everything seems to be running efficiently in task manager and I’m loving the new GPU and Blender version but I don’t want constant crashing and want to be able to avoid it becoming an ongoing problem if possible
So, you may be limited by your graphics card’s memory. If you run out of graphics card RAM while rendering, your Blender instance may just crash. I would recommend starting Blender from a command prompt, and then if it crashes on you, you’ll get an error message you can read, Google, and share here.
If you have questions about starting Blender from the command prompt, here is the manual page for Windows: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/advanced/command_line/launch/windows.html#windows
Thanks hunkadoodle I’ll check that out.
It seemed to be rendering awesomely while I was watching it, especially compared to before i changed to 2.8 and added a GPU. In 2.79 and running CPU, everything just lagged or froze if it was overworked but not shutdown.
Running multiple instances of blender didn’t surprise me even though I could run 4 or 5 before. Otherwise it was a single instance rendering to 8 different output files. Not sure if thats enough to overload a 4Gb card but I’ll keep an eye on it. Only had the latest version for a couple of days and still trying to get my head around a few other changes. Thanks for your reply
