My son just started to taking music lessons, he’s playing the trumpet. So I thought I’d give it a shot.
Not quite complete, just so musicians don’t get angry… ha ha. I’m missing a few support pieces but I’m quite happy with the results so far.

I think it looks awesome. What renderer did you use?
thanks!
I used blender internal. It works quite well, and fast, for shiny metal materials… it’s really the HDR probe reflection which helps the most.
nice work with the internal render. only the DOF (blur) is killing the nice reflections of the HDRi image. if i would use DOF here i would use a high number of zoom/focal length of 150 as well. a little perspective distortion…
i wonder if cycles would do a better job here thid is very good
I strongly suggest that you investigate the passage of air in relation to the first and third valves, particularly the positioning of the respective tuning slides of both valves. In addition as your are probably aware, the water key/s and the bracings are currently missing from the instrument, in addition, the main tuning slide is disturbingly absent. The instrument is two thirds cylindrical bore, and one third conical bore, and though it is apparent that you have successfully mimicked this important feature there are some errors; predominantly the size of the bore is incorrect throughout multiple areas of the instrument, i.e. within these areas the bore is smaller then would commonly be evident. Despite the technical criticisms, I am impressed by the quality of the Blender Internal render, and I am interested in relation to the rendering of the image within Cycles.
thanks for the comments everyone!
@Blutarsky - thanks for the suggestions I’ll do some more testing. I was considering simply doing a lens distort in the compositor but you’re suggestion would likely be more realistic.
@Keyfinder - I knew I’d make a musician upset.

I’m confident that your technical criticisms are all valid, I’m not sure I’ll get to the level of detail you describe but I hope to address the glaring omissions/errors, thanks for commenting.
I’ll post again once I do some corrections and give this a try in cycles.
this seems like a great start. I don’t know much about the structure of trumpets but you should be able to make it pretty accurate.
as for the render, i dont recommend using cycles for this. It doesnt support light probes as far as i am aware of, so it would botch the reflections (unless you plan to build a whole environment just for this trumpet). Just turn on environment lighting in the world settings and you’re set if you want to make a basic scene.
Good luck with the rest of it.
