Trying out Linux for finally

yea, linux works on almost every architecture available :]

I actually didn’t realize that, and that’s why I was trying to use the linuxppc build of Blender, I thought it just meant it was for pentium-class proccessers.

I followed the link to gentoo’s website and it looks like a good distro, so I’ll keep it in mind for the future!

you’re running peanut on a PPC? wow! there aren’t many binary distros that support PPC (or any other then x86 architectures to be exact)

yea, gentoo’s great …it did take me half a year to make the change from my beloved slackware, but now that i did it, i’m really thankfull for it …the portage system and the community are great!!! …bear it in mind. if not now, then in a few months or years you’ll be ready for the change …you won’t regret it

No… you must have misunderstood. I am running Peanut on an i686 machine. But when I went to get Blender I downloaded the ppc build thinking it just meant that it was for pentuim-class machines. I quickly got the i386 builds of 2.25 and 2.28a after that.

oh, that must have been fun
