So I was following a tutorial and he was showing how to bake normals. I did how he did and my normal didnt come out detailed at all. Did you have both objects in the same location when you tried to bake the normals ?
Why have you not attached or posted a link to a demo blend file that demonstrates this problems. You should be doing this at the very minimum for ALL support questions.
Duplicate your low poly mesh and scale it larger than the high poly. This is your projected normal mesh. Use it to create the normal map instead of your actual sized low poly mesh.
