Trying to cover a toy airplane in tissue paper

I just started learning blender and have no 3d modeling experience… so I thought a simple balsa airplane would make for a good start. I scanned in the drawings and the geometry was easy enough to make, but I just can’t make the covering work. Currently I have the covering as a plane with a translucent material applied. However I’m getting these really dark patches where the plane contacts the wood.

What am I doing wrong or how could I better simulate a transparent covering for my airplane?

On a side note, I’ll model the propeller and its mount along with some landing gear tomorrow. I’m sure I could find some materials or tutorials for plastic and metal wire.

Make sure the wood material has Shadows > Receive Transparent checked. Also, the covering should not be perfectly on the wood, move it up a little (if it’s not already.)

If you are using ray transparency, you may also want to take down the gloss value to something like 0.5 - real tissue paper diffuses light a good deal.
