Tuhopuu and open files in 2.23

hi,
I’m working on a darth maul model atm, which I’m planning to use both Highpoly as Lowpoly. I’m going to try to get the Darth Maul ingame (Q3A or UT2k3), but therefor I always export my Blender Meshes in .X-format with a 2.23 python script. My brother recently told me about the exp. version of Blender, called Tuhopuu (2.28 ), and about it’s cut feature (the K-key).
I found this very handy, because otherwise I’d have to use the rusty knife tool, which is a bit slower, and less good.
I saved my model and tried to load it in Blender2.23 (because this has a render feature which doesn’t need lightning, but just makes a pic of a viewport), and it worked… I made my WIPpic and started modelling again in Tuhopuu. I saved it again, but this time I couldn’t load it in Blender2.23, although I could in 2.25.

Since I really need to use 2.23 for exporting, how can I open my models in this version???
HELP ME, I’M DESPERATE!

thanks,

Tuhopuu (and shmender) have some mesh editing math that 2.23 doesn’t. If you use those functions and try to save in 2.23 there is no way for 2.23 to write them to the file. The same happens if you try to save ONB or TOON to 2.23. There’s just no way for it to write the data.

Flight%: The new mesh editing features are not saved in the blend file, only the mesh resulting from the feature. That is to say, using the knife or loop cut tool on a mesh doesn’t break its compatibility with 2.23.

Neither does the new material shaders. AFAIK, it will load in 2.23 anyway, it will just have some strange material settings.

Well, we could both be right. I realize after reading your reply that (as far as the shaders are concerned) I should have said Tuhopuu 1. I do have a few files that I can only open with Tuhoppu… But remember I only use 2.23 so .25 - .28a may work I just don’t use them, and that’s basically what he said. I don’t know enough about Blenders’ digestive system to argue the point though.

so you’re saying there’s no way to open my files in 2.23??
no little tool inside tuhopuu that does something which will make it work in 2.23? even if I would have to edit a bit in 2.23??

heh, I deleted some internal vertexes and triangulated and it imported. I had to join the two mirrormeshes though :frowning: Guess I’ll have to find another way for that…

If I were you I’d trust Theeth on this rather than myself. He has coded stuff in Tuhopuu so he should know. Just don’t underestimate 2.23! If you manage to import into 2.23 then save and reopen immediately and then edit. That’s about all the help I can give.

What feature did you use in Tuhopuu before it broke the backward compatibility?

Martin

In whaever version that can open your file, just export to DXF and then import from 2.23, don’t need to get complicated with fancy options 8)
