🚀 Turbo Tools - Faster Cycles Renders & Compositing!

Hi Martin! I have been away from render work for almost a year with other client work and I just updated to TR 4.1.1 because I need to do a 1800 frame animation render… I’m test rendering right now with TR and I do not remember this Initializing Execution monkey-business that is by far taking much longer than other parts of each frame… Anything I can do about this? LMK if you need specifics about rig and scene etc to answer.

Hi Norka, hope you’re well. I now offer support exclusively at the contact details shown on your receipt, or the ask a question button on the BlenderMarket if that’s where you go it.

The user manual’s troubleshooting section will most likely have the answer to that one, but give me a shout if you still need help and I’ll take a look when I get up (just off to bed) :+1:

Is there a point to this thread? You should just have it locked to only yourself and say at the top that you do not invite simple questions…

I highly recommend swinging by Photographer and GeoScatter to see how it is done. I guarantee these blokes are selling way the hell more addon licenses than yourself. By taking the little time to answer questions as they pop up, they save their customers precious time and then those answers become a quick reference for others as well. And by keeping the thread active/alive with actual dialogue you get a huge bonus of having your thread pushed to the Latest, thus getting more eyeballs and sales. Everyone wins.

Oh sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you, it’s just that people who are using the addon without supporting development by purchasing a copy, were using various forums to try and contact me directly for help. I know you’ve purchased a copy, but I just don’t want to open the floodgates again.

At the support portals offered with the purchase, I always answer questions the same day (usually within an hour unless I’m sleeping), so I like to keep my time free to make sure I can achieve that, and spend the rest of the time developing the addon further.

I don’t want to lock the thread, because sometimes people who’ve purchase a copy don’t realise they’ve also purchased support, so I keep it unlocked so I can redirect them. I also keep it open so I can share news about new updates and demonstrations, and get feedback.

Cheers
Michael

Dude, the only link on my receipt from 8/21/23 is [email protected]

And there is little else on this invoice beyond costs. Really bro, can you just tell us what Initializing Execution is and why it takes so long and I will be on my merry (not angry) way?..

I have a separate support contact area on the Blender market. You can click the ‘ask a question’ button on the product page :+1:

Tell me, are there performance tests in comparison with Cycles on standard scenes BMW27, Classroom, Fishy Cat, Koro, Pabellon Barcelona, Victor? https://code.blender.org/2016/02/new-cycles-benchmark/

Hi, there are tests of the barbershop and classroom scene, and that scene with the girl with the cullinder on her head behind a stall selling robot parts. You can check them out here: https://www.youtube.com/3d-illusions

Turbo Tools - Updated to version 4.1.2 !

Hi, hope you’re well. Turbo Tools has been updated to version 4.1.2. If you’ve purchased a copy, lifetime updates are included so you can download it straight away from your library (link on your receipt).

If you haven’t yet seen Turbo Tools in action, learn how it can speed up Cycles rendering and compositing at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEBkCnxu6RY&list=PLj47Aeq9jcpT7zUbGy81wzb4nImxy4fA4

Included in this update:

  • Fixed bug introduced in the previous Turbo Tools release (4.1.1). When pressing play with no compositor visible, a popup message saying ‘please select a viewer node’ would appear and stop playback. This message should only ever appear when launching a Turbo Tools compositor operation if the compositor is visible and there are multiple viewer nodes with non selected, or no viewer nodes at all.

  • The ‘swirly/blotchy artefacts’ option in the Turbo Render settings has been renamed to ‘artefacts/loss of detail’, and the tooltip has been updated to a better explanation of what the option is for.

  • When enabling the ‘artefacts/loss of detail’ option with the ‘animation’ option also enabled, the max samples will use the non-animation values to prevent behemoth rendering times . The animation option uses much higher max samples because it relies on the noise threshold to keep the render times low, but with noise threshold disabled, renders would become confusingly longer than expected. This option should only be used as a last resort, it’s usually better to first try a higher sample pre-set, or modify problematic scene elements/materials/lighting.

IMPORTANT - Before installing this update, disable and remove the old addon, restart Blender, and then install this updated version.

Cheers

Turbo Tools - Updated to version 4.1.3 !

Hi, hope you’re well. Turbo Tools has been updated to version 4.1.3.

  • If a viewlayer’s ‘use for rendering’ option is disabled, turbo tools will now mute the render layer node prior to rendering to prevent a denoise tree being created for it. This will avoid unnecessary denoising time, and also ensure that render layer cache nodes are successfully created for all other render layer nodes that are being used for rendering.

IMPORTANT - Before installing this update, disable and remove the old addon, restart Blender, and then install this updated version.

Turbo Tools Updated to 4.1.4!

Hi, hope you’re well. Turbo Tools has been updated to version 4.1.4.

  • Added support for Blender 4.3 Alpha. Without this update Blender 4.3 will crash when you try and render with Turbo Tools.

  • Disabling the animation option in the compositor’s turbo panel (not the one in the render panel) should ensure only the most recently rendered cache EXR is kept on disk. This is useful for saving disk space when rendering still images, or when you don’t intend to use the turbo tools compositing features such as publishing/temporal stabilisation after rendering an animation. Previously this could fail under some circumstances. You still need to ensure your folders aren’t set to read only of course.

  • When publishing with multiple composite nodes in the compositor, turbo requires the user to select the composite node they want to publish. Previously this could cause an error.

  • General performance and code improvements.

USEFUL NOTICE - Unrelated to Turbo Tools, because it happens even without Turbo Tools installed: Recent Nvidia drivers have been leading to random crashes during rendering in some versions of Blender. If you’re experiencing this, I’ve found that updating to Nvidia Studio Driver version 555.99 has completely resolved the issue. Also Blender 4.3 Alpha doesn’t seem to crash even with earlier Nvidia driver versions.

IMPORTANT - Before installing this update, disable and remove the old addon, restart Blender, and then install this updated version. If you’re using newer versions of Blender that have replaced addons with extensions, then go to the extensions tab in preferences, click the arrow in the top right, and choose install from disk. This will install Turbo Tools as a legacy addon. I will convert the addon to an extension once the Blender developers have finished tweaking how it works.

I really like this found footage animation by NotTheDarkLord. He just messaged me to tell me he uses Turbo Tools for much faster and more detailed Cycles renders:

Turbo Tools 4.1.5 available for download!

Hi, hope you’re well. Turbo Tools has been updated to version 4.1.5. If you’ve purchased a copy, lifetime updates are included so you can download it straight away from your library (link on your receipt).

Included in this update:

  • Animating render visibility in the outliner (the camera icon) could cause Blender to crash during publishing. To avoid this happening, the UI will now be locked during publishing. The image editors will remain responsive, so you can still view the progress of publishing/stabilisation, zoom in and out, and cancel.

  • The ‘Allow Viewer’ option in the publishing area of the compositor’s turbo panel, has been renamed to ‘show progress in image editor’. Once enabled, any open image editors that are set to show the viewer node, will show the publishing progress in real time. This allows you to see problems without having to wait until publishing/stabilisation completes, so you can quickly cancel, tweak settings, and re-publish.

  • General performance and code improvements.

I will convert the addon to an extension once it becomes necessary, otherwise I will have to maintain two versions to continue supporting older versions of Blender.
