Turntable Animations

To answer your first question:

What’s you walk cycle animation like? Is the character walking in place (on a treadmill)

For the Walk Cycle action, the character is walking in place, the root bone wasn’t moved at all.

walk

And about your suggestion of moving the root bone and moving it back, can it work well with a Follow Path constraint, or do I have to make the character walk in an arc the manual way?

Yes, i did the same just not used the path for forward.

Yes i do normally the same but for a long stretch walk it’s faster to do on the spot cycle/treadmill.

It’s splining time

Yeah so now I’m on the stage of testing out the splining of the blocked out actions. There’s a lot left to be cleaned up.

Here’s an unfinished splining attempt for the first two actions. (walk cycle was not refined for splining yet)

Another Update!
I’ve baked the Walk Cycle animation so I could edit it in case something didn’t look right, for instance I’ve inclined her right sock when she walks onto the turntable. I’ve also made her weight shift onto her right foot when she tugs the backpack straps, And I splined her facial animation for the first action

Update, I animated her walking off the turntable, with the walk cycle being unique.

I also started to play around with the lights and shading, I tried to replicate the lighting from the Cars 2 turntable videos

There are actually a lot of sliding movements, but it’s also true that if you don’t look closely, you can’t see them well. :slightly_smiling_face:

Uh?

that’s an old and outdated render.

The one above your post is the most recent one

I saw the modified motion late.

No worries. Got any specific feedback about my latest one?

Strangely, I like the previous move more.
I don’t know why. :innocent:

Add…

Comparing the two videos, the movement of the previous video feels more cartoon-like.
It’s a personal feeling.

Of course, a new video is good for motion. :slightly_smiling_face:

I am now making another turntable animation, this time with a different character, that being Spider-Donkey

The scene begins with Spider-Donkey hanging upside down, but the web string slips and he falls to the ground, Donkey gets back up and goes on the turntable, but realizes he’s facing the wrong way and turns around.

This is currently in the blocking out phase, I’d like some feedback on it.

I have now blocked out the actions for when the turntable spins and when he gets off it.

I’d like feedback on how it looks and if there is any way I can improve it.

I am now testing out the smears, squash and stretch to add cartooniness to the animation.

The smears that are motion lines are done via Grease Pencil, while the duplicated limbs are done with the Keymesh addon.

I have now added an action where he turns his head to look at the billboards as he’s spinning on the turntable.
