tutorial on glares, flares, glows?

how do you do it in the composting, i’m still noob in terms of composting, so i’ll give what might concern, yes, i’ll be using cycles if that ever matters…
but the problem, is that the glow is not from a singular mesh, but from a part of it…
from what i’ve seen before, people make a new flat mesh, single it out with a black background, make a glow in it, then overlay them with render pass, but i really don’t know the specific details, first of, not even the name, so Google is useless…

Yeah use the glare node in the compositor to isolate the brightest parts of the image and apply the effect.
