Two different armatures has the same IPO, but it's not what I want!

Hello.

I made an animal armatured, and i animated it, it’s okay, so i duplicated both the mesh and armature to make a variant using the same ipo for all the bones but one (the head bone).

However, every modification that i do in the duplicated, somehow applies to the first animal. Even if i delete the IPO this applies to both objects.

How can i “break” the link between these armatures?

Thanks in advance.

Delete your copies.
Then pull down the system settings from the top.
Click Edit Methods and click the IPO button.
Now, when you duplicate, the IPO will be given it’s own copy instead of sharing it’s originators IPO.

In the IPO window you need to click on the number right next to the Datablock name, then select make single user. This will make each object have a seperate IPO curves. You can then modify one without the other being affected.

Thanks guys, but I tried both methods and none of them worked…

I’m attaching a blend with the animated model that I want to clone and add a new animation only for the head bone.

Can someone please confirms that these methods aren’t working on latest Blender?

When I click the IPO button under settings menu, it doesn’t actually affect the app behaviour, and if i save the file with the button clicked, it is unclicked when i open it again.
The method descibed by forevernood should work, and looks like it’s exactly what i want, however, even if i follow those steps, the ipo still “linked”.

Thanks

You need to work in the Action Editor as well as the IPO Editor. Each bone is automatically included in an Action for that Armature. When you duplicate the Armature, the same Action is still applied, so any edits to a bone’s IPO, including changing it to a different IPO from the choices list, is incorporated in the Action, and any Armature using that Action will show the change.

After duplicating your Armature, go into the Action Editor and in the choices drop-down choose “ADD NEW.” This duplicates the Action and all its IPOs. You can now edit any of these independently from the originals.

If you want only one bone to have different IPOs, you can select the other bones one at a time and In the IPO Editor assign the original IPOs (they’re still in the IPO list because they’re part of the original Armature’s Action) to the respective bones. But keep in mind that editing these IPOs will change the animation for these bones in both Actions.

You’re 100% right Chipmasque!

The problem is the action actually. The fix is to either add a new action or make it single user.

Thank you very much!
