Couldn’t find an answer to my question here in the forum…wondering if nobody has the same issue: I might be wrong but in previous versions of Blender when there were two input sockets connected (e.g. upper/lower Image in Color Mix Node) and you changed the upper one to the lower one then the lower on switched automatically to the upper on (and vice versa). In the current version the other socket is simply disconnected - which can be quite time consuming and annoying.
Does anybody know if this is just a preference issue? Or did my memory mislead me in the past…?
It was ‘fixed’ because it irritated some people. The only good place for it was in the mix shader anyway and in the math node.
But it was brought back from the dead in the nodetools/nodewrangler addon as a shortcut. When you enable this addon there’s an extremely long list of shortcuts available.
While it was handy in the compositor the only node I tended to use it on was mix node. Mostly because I would hook the inputs up back to front. But if there was more than one possible input socket to use it often swapped to the wrong one.
Currently in the Node Wrangler addon, you can only swap the outputs of two nodes (http://wiki.blender.org/uploads/e/e9/Nw_swap_outputs.gif) which can be useful for this, but perhaps it’d be better if you could select the Mix node, hit Alt+S and it’ll swap the two inputs.
I’ll think about how this could be expanded for use with other situations, but it sounds fairly reasonable to implement before the actual 2.70 release.
