Two simple questions for a noob?

My first question is, how can I outline the edge of text in a thin, black line?

As you can see you can’t tell very well that it is 3d.
My next question is, how do you make only a certain part of an object glow? For example, a sphere with glowing rings around it sort of like this, without having to add more mesh and re-sizing it to fit the sphere:

Thanks in advance

Possible answer for them both. You’ll add two separate materials to your object. One the green then a black on. But before you can do that your text needs to be converted to a mesh. Select your text in in object mode and press alt+c then mesh from curve/meta/surf/text.

In you materials panel you’ll click the + button to add a second material to your text. If you just want the outside faces to have the black you’ll select all of the outside faces, select your new black material then underneath click assign.

I have to post the other image in another post.

If you press the spacebar and then type in limited dissolve that’ll help clean the text up a bit. The settings will show up in the panel on the left you might have to scroll around and find it.

I did the glowing spheres tutorial awhile back. The method would be the same just add a new material and assign it only to the faces you want to assign it to.

Hope this helps a bit.

could try freestyle for the edge on text

Thanks! All your answers helped a lot.
