which i cannot select so i suppose this is a sort of map
but whcih one is it ?

and how to remove it or replace it and where in 2.5

you should be able to select this object in the outliner,
check there its name and select it from the list ob objects.

And with blender-2.55 (dont know if its a bug) it sometimes
happens to me, i cannot select an object until i disable the
textured-view in 3d to shaded or only wireframe. Happens
with some kind of uv-mapping …

ok but his sphere is used to apply a sort of map on it and i cann it when rendering

but right now the size is too small and i can see the edge being circular and
not nice to see this in render !LOL
so i need to make it bigger to not see th circle effect on the horizon on right and left!

not certain i can sue this may be should go with sky or env map
at least they don’t have this effet in corners!
