Tyrannosaur Head(edit:Plus Body and legs)

I am pretty new to blender and I have kind of focused learning onto one animal, so i can see how much i progress from model to model…this is the 3rd trex i have done and i would say it is defeninately the best head so far…its not done obviosly, no teeth…no throat no body etc lol
I am not letting the mirror weld just yet in case i decide i need to add some more detail to the nose or the head…easier to add from there than try to cut it in, so thats why it doesnt look connected(it isnt:RocknRoll:)

It looks like it was subdivided a lot.

is that neccesarily bad? i mean i know you shouldnt need large ammounts of subdiv…but 4 isnt excessively high is it? also whats the best way to get the same or similar results w/o raising the subdivision level?

Added nostrils and eyes…two questions

first, for the nostrils, i extruded around the opening and connected the vertices to the mirror, to give the illusion of a large and open nasal cavity is this neccesary or is there a better way to give the same effect?

also…on the eye…does the way the mesh is molded give the illusion that the eye is sunk in just slightly into the skull?

Started on the body…i think the neck muscles turned out very nicely

it doesnt give the illusion… it actually is sunk in lol =) id sink em in just a bit more… have you checked out the eye tutorials… could be pretty helpfull! I’d smooth that biotch too might help you on that subsurf deal… good work yo keep it up

Looking good. It will be interesting to see if you can make it look like it actually balances. I always found that drawing creatures with only two legs particularly difficult to make them stand correctly, so they don’t look top heavy or leaning backwards/forwards or something.

I’d say that subsurf on 4 might be a little high, you can achieve high quality detailed shapes (such as human face modelling) with only subsurf 2 using ‘set smooth’. But if you feel that you need it set as high as 4, then it’s your model and good luck to you :slight_smile:

Not too bad, the eyes and nostrils made a great improvement.

what is that?? is that a tooth? …scary!! lucky for us T-rex don’t live with us anymore. :smiley:
i like the model! but if you’ll be animating that… won’t a subdivision of 4 hurt much?

anymore?:-p they never did, and yeah thats one tooth of many…the trex jaw was 4 feet long so it could take a bit of a chunk out of a person with one bite lol

i turned subdivision down to 3 in the last photos but even 2 looks good i didnt realise that set smooth didnt apply to the whole object so i couldnt figure out why some of my faces were smooth and some were edgy so i just turned subdivision up lol

do you guys think the feet might be a bit large? i cant decide

Looking good. Although the feet don’t look like they could support his weight. Could you show us how it looks with subsurf at level 2?

i played with his feet for a while cause i thought the same thing…that was the most natural look i could reach

Starting to look better than mine. One more little problem, the claws look like they’re part of the hands and feet which doesn’t look very good. With textures and more details this could be as good as EnV’s.

there arent any claws on the hands…just the fingers so far…the claws are in the same mesh as the rest of the model…ill probably extract the area where they first conect to add the effect of a skin fold…or roll w/e youd like to call it around them
