Ubuntu 10.10 upgrade breaks pressure sensitivity... again.

Apologies first off for not posting this to a support forum, but in fairness there is not actually a support forum for issues such as this, and this topic has been brought up in news and discussion before.

It seems with every new ubuntu version there is some new and tediuos method to work out for getting pressure sensitivity to work in blender. In 10.04 using a custom .fdi file worked rather nicely, as discussed in these threads.

However, I updated to ubuntu 10.10 today, and was dismayed to find that this no longer seems to work. It appears now that configuring wacom devices (and presumably other tablets) is to be done through editing /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf

This seems to work fine for adjusting the active area and other issues, but as discussed in previous threads:

The previous fix for this used the fdi file to rename the identifiers to ones blender would recognise, but I cant work out how to do this in ubuntu 10.10 now that the fdi file method seems not to be working.

Edit: Update. The fdi method does appear to work still actually. Though the identifiers don’t seem to have changed when I run “xsetwacom list” or “xinput --list”, I do get pressure sensitivity in blender. Go figure.

That’s funny, it seems that pressure sensitivity in Blender was the only thing that worked almost out-of-the-box in Lucid.

That said, I haven’t even tried to do anything about my Wacom with Maverick yet.

Edit: Installing was a breeze, even with a Twinview configuration. And multitouch works, somewhat! With no extra configuration! O_O

I can only get it to work if i unplug my wacom and plug it back in again, blender is the only app i have to do this for in Ubuntu.
